    Game studios

Game studios are developers who create games for various platforms. These can range from desktop games to mobile games. They combine a wealth of experience from the games market with the latest technologies. Their products are highly regarded by consumers. GamerBox Studios, for example, develops mobile and desktop games.

Students in the program are tasked with creating two games based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. They work with a variety of tools and collaborate virtually with mentors from both academia and the games industry. Throughout the program, participants also participate in virtual and in-person game jams, which teach them design thinking and the skills necessary to make games. Once complete, the teams submit their games to the Game Exchange competition. The finalists are then awarded awards at the program’s finale. Over two years, the program will reach nearly 3,000 students, with a focus on underserved youth.

Games for Change’s (G4C) Game Exchange

The Games for Change Game Exchange is a virtual exchange program that pairs students from four countries that share a love of video games. Students from these countries form “game studios” and work online to create new games. They are coached by classroom teachers who provide game design curriculum. Ultimately, they submit their games to the Game Exchange competition. The winning teams are recognized during a culminating awards event. Ultimately, the Game Exchange program is expected to serve nearly 3,000 students in two years. Its goal is to empower youth in developing countries to develop global competences and 21st-century skills needed to thrive in a globalized world.

The Games for Change Game Exchange is supported by the U.S. State Department’s Stevens Initiative, which supports vocational training programs for students in the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States. As part of this program, students from the participating countries will meet with mentors from the game industry to create original games. The students will follow a Games for Change curriculum and will then submit their completed games to an annual game competition.

Games for Change’s (G4C) Virtual Exchange

Games for Change has partnered with schools from around the world to develop a virtual game exchange that promotes cross-cultural understanding through digital learning. The program pairs middle and high school students from different parts of the world to work together on collaborative projects using a game development software called Scratch. These students are then guided by teachers who have expertise in game development.

Students will be partnered up to create a video game project, which must address one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Teachers trained through G4C’s game design curriculum will support students as they work on their selected projects. Throughout the program, game jams and hackathons will help students hone their skills. In addition, students will have access to mentorship from schools in the United States and Middle East.

Games for Change is a nonprofit organization that empowers game creators and social innovators to create and distribute games that can affect the world in positive ways. This organization also celebrates and supports games that make a difference through its annual G4C Awards. These games are recognized for addressing social challenges or educating players.
